Wi-Fi Tips
Wi-Fi can be a tricky business. Here are a few tips to help solve some common setup problems:
1. If you live in a large house you may struggle to get reception - Try moving the router to a more central location or upgrade to a more powerful wireless N version.
2. Forgotten your password? - Most routers have the default password written underneath them, this will be called wireless key, WEP key or something similar.
3. Slow speed? - Run an online speed check such as speedtest.net. If you score a low result contact your ISP (internet service provider) and see if they can do anything to help boost your speed.

Good PC Practice
Many people try to keep their laptop or desktop running well by installing lots of 'PC Tune Up' type programs. At Phase1 Computers our engineers have often seen PC's brought to their knees by multiple programs running in memory trying to speed up the PC and actually slowing it down. Many of these programs also contain viruses or are a trial version that want you to pay for the full version.
A PC can be kept up to speed by following a few simple rules:
1. Don't install unnecessary software - Only install software you need such as Office programs etc, PC tune up tools etc should not be installed.
2. Don't use P2P software like uTorrent, Limewire & Bearshare - These programs are THE most common source of virus infection.
3. Keep your hard drive defragmented - Regular fortnighty defragmention can help your hard drive access files quickly.
4. Don't do a system restore! - Customers often do a system restore to try and make their PC quicker, this is not the correct use of this feature. System restore should only be used as a last resort by a PC engineer it is not designed to fix minor issues.
